"A Year in Bloom"

Lynne created 365 paintings of flowers during the year that spanned Mid September 1997 to the end of August 1998. This project was taken on as part of "Seasons Around the Square" a group project by artists of the AVA Gallery in Lebanon NH, under the leadership of Kenneth Leslie, Art Professor at Johnson State College. The theme of seasons appealed to Lynne, and because she had just rented a new studio, she wanted a focus that would have her painting on a regular basis, so she set herself a goal that was so overwhelming she just had to do it. When the exhibit opened, 12 of the paintings were framed and hung with the other artist's work and all of the others were hung on the wall outside the gallery door to greet people as they arrived.

"Fresh Bloom"

In the following year, Lynne scheduled an exhibit at the Latham Public Library in Thetford, VT. and decided she would continue the floral theme. This time she completed 12 additional floral works that were larger and more complicated, culminating in three pieces that are very large. (3x3' and 2x4') These were shown with framed work from the first series.  An occasional floral theme painting since this has been added to the floral body of work.
The most recent is "White Orchids" which may be found in the Red and Green Collection. The most recent work, "Remembrance - the Pink Chair Project" contains many rich floral elements.

Cards, Prints and Originals:

Lynne started making reproductions of the images during the holiday season of 1997 - the poinsettias and holly images were well received, and she went on to producing more and more of the images in card and print format. A recent flood destroyed many of the prints but some are still available. Some of the originals in the collections were also destroyed but some are still available. A Year in Bloom Journal:

All art is metaphorical for Lynne, and has deep linkage to her life. To step inside and see what was going on, you are invited to read her journal from that year. It starts like this.........

September, 1997

I am overjoyed to finally get a studio outside my home, and move into my space with the window looking out on the train tracks in the old red mill building.  There are other artists here, and the light is wonderful. I  do my first painting on September 10, after a couple of days of unpacking and moving in.  I haven’t painted in a year and a half.  I’ve been busy, getting married and planting the gardens around my new home in Thetford.    I’ve never painted flowers before - somehow, they never appealed. But now, with the house and garden and a wonderful new husband, flowers suddenly makes sense; they seems to fit............... (click to continue)
